AUC (American University of the Caribbean) and RUSM (Ross University School of Medicine) are based in the Caribbean but also have students from both the US and Canada. We welcome 12-14 of these students each year. Their placements with us (known as Clerkships) are for around 12 months.

While at Wexham Park they will rotate through the following clerkships:
12 weeks in internal medicine
12 weeks in surgery
6 weeks in Obs & Gynae
6 week in Paediatrics
6 weeks in Psych (St Bernard's Hospital)
As they finish each clerkship, they will need to complete an assessment form which is done by the clerkship director for each specialty. Once these are completed, they are sent to the site co-ordinator who then sends them on to the university. Other documentation includes a log book which is used to record attendance and needs to be signed by the consultant they have been working with.

The medical students we have on placement are year 6 students and are only placed within ED. They are on placement for four weeks.

The lead consultant for Imperial is Dr Atul Bansal. There is no formal testing for the Imperial students but the placement does need to be signed off by Dr Bansal.

Accommodation is offered to the students but not all take up the offer as some only have a short commute. While on placement each student will receive an ID badge as well as scrubs and IT log in for clinical applications.

The medical students we have on placement are only placed within paediatrics. The placement is for six weeks.

The lead consultant for Oxford is Dr Domna Alexopoulou. There is no formal testing for the Oxford students but the placement does need to be signed off by Dr Alexopoulou.

Accommodation is provided for the medical students and arranged by the undergraduate coordinator. Scrubs are provided by the university. All students will have an ID badge as well as IT login for clinical applications.

At Wexham Park we provide placements for  Year 4 and Year 5 medical students from the University of Southampton’s medical school.

Year 5 medical students

We take 12 final year students for each yearly rotation, during which the students will do the following placements:

Eight weeks in surgery
Eight weeks in medicine (non-acute)
Four weeks on a GP placement
Four weeks in a placement of their choice which can be either acute medicine, O&G or paediatrics.
All students are offered our on-site accommodation for the duration of their placement, as well as onsite parking if required; this is arranged through the undergraduate coordinator.

On arrival, the students will be provided with scrubs and an ID badge, as well as IT log ins.

Year 4 medical students

For the year 4 students, we offer placements in O&G and paediatrics. Two students will go to O&G and do a five week rotation and the other two students will do six weeks in paediatrics.

All students are offered our on-site accommodation for the duration of their placement, as well as on-site parking if required; this is arranged through the undergraduate coordinator.

On arrival, the students will be provided with ID badges and IT log ins. The Year 4 students have their own scrubs, which are provided by the university.

ACC

At the end of each placement, students need to complete three Assessments of Clinical Competence (ACCs), which are completed with three different consultants. These will last at least 60 minutes and an ACC form is completed for each one; these are submitted to the university.

Each consultant will need to have completed the ACC training. These can be completed by Medusa and a certificate will be awarded for their records.

As well as the training listed above, students will also be provided training in other settings while on each placement, such as bed-side teaching on ward rounds.
