Congratulations to our maternity teams who have met all 10 safety actions laid down in a national NHS programme.

Only 63 of 122 UK trusts met all the actions in the Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trust’s (CNST) maternity incentive scheme, now in its fourth year. The actions cover areas such as workforce planning, in-house training, patient feedback, transitional care, safety champions and the use of specific care bundles.

Lorna Wilkinson, our Chief of Nursing and Midwifery, described the achievement as “stunning work” and “a true team effort”.

The CNST is part of NHS Resolution and handles clinical negligence claims against member NHS bodies. All NHS trusts in England currently belong to the scheme with its costs met by membership contributions.

Trusts demonstrating they have achieved all 10 safety actions for this year will recover their contribution to the CNST maternity incentive fund together with a share of any unallocated funds.

The news comes as the Care Quality Commission (CQC) visits Frimley Health this week as part of its national maternity inspection programme. The inspectors, who were at Frimley Park yesterday, are visiting Wexham Park today and will hold interviews with selected colleagues on Friday, are focusing mostly on safety and leadership, although other aspects could be examined.
