Special Recognition Award 

Winner: Sean Harding - nurse consultant for acute care. 

Sean was nominated by a colleague within the ICS for his work on the vision, initiation and delivery of the UEC virtual ward. This service, which started in November last year, was the first of its type nationally and is leading the way in transforming our emergency care services. He has seen 750 patients since it started, 92% of whom would have otherwise been treated on a same day emergency care (SDEC) pathway and 5% would have been admitted to hospital.

He has excelled at working together as an influential lead for virtual wards both in his role as cross-site clinical lead for ambulatory emergency care / medical SDEC (FHFT) and in being the clinical lead for virtual wards for Frimley ICB which has also provided him the opportunity to promote FHFT successes at several local and national forums. Sean’s dedication is unwavering as he continues to deliver despite the challenges with staffing and the demand for out-of-hours support to make the virtual ward a success.”
