Frimley Health is delighted to announce the launch of two new awards to recognise and celebrate the phenomenal work of our nursing and midwifery teams.
Launching in the same month as International Day of the Midwife (5 May) and International Nurses Day (12 May), the DAISY Awards highlight the compassionate care that nurses, midwives and nursing associates provide to both patients and their loved ones, while the TULIP Awards are to be awarded to health care assistants who go above and beyond to ensure their patients receive the best standard of care.
These awards are in addition to the Trust’s monthly ViP (Values into Practice) Awards which recognise staff across the Trust who have shown exceptional dedication to our shared values.
The DAISY – Diseases Attacking the Immune sYstem – Foundation, which organises the awards, was set up in 1999 by the Barnes family in memory of their loved one to express their gratitude for the compassionate and extraordinary nursing they had received at such a distressing time.
A leader in the meaningful recognition of nurses and midwives worldwide, the DAISY Foundation wants to help nurses, midwives and nursing associates "remember the unforgettable impact their care has on patients and families".
The TULIP Awards - Touching Unique Lives in Practice - is a Frimley Health initiative to raise awareness of the outstanding work that healthcare support workers do to care for their patients and make them feel as comfortable as possible while in hospital.
Through the DAISY and TULIP awards, Frimley Health is encouraging patients and staff to nominate exceptional midwives, nurses, nursing associates and health care assistants throughout the year. Keep an eye out for posters going up around the Trust where you can access the nomination forms via a QR code or visit www.fhft.nhs.uk/DaisyTulipAwards. Closing date for our first nominations is the 30 June 2023 with awards presented towards the end of July.
Lorna Wilkinson, Chief of Nursing and Midwifery, said: “I’m so proud of the outstanding care that our nurses, midwives and health care assistants offer our patients. It’s great to be able to put a spotlight on the incredible work they do and give our patients and staff a platform to say thank you to exceptional individuals who go that extra mile.”
