An open letter to our local communities from Dr Tim Ho, Chief Medical Officer, and Melanie van Limborgh, Chief of Nursing and Midwifery
Dear patients and families,
We want to share some important updates regarding our current situation at our Frimley Park and Wexham Park hospitals.
Our commitment to providing safe and high-quality care remains our top priority, but we are facing sustained and significant pressures across our services.
We need your help to ensure that those who need urgent care can receive it without delay. Emergency departments are not the best place for non-urgent issues.
If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please call 999 or go directly to an emergency department.
However, if your issue is not urgent, we ask you to consider other healthcare options:
- Local pharmacies: For minor health concerns.
- Your GP: For routine medical needs.
- NHS 111: Call 111 or visit the NHS 111 online service for guidance.
- Urgent Care Centres: Located in Slough and Bracknell, these centres can help with less critical issues.
Using these services appropriately will help us manage the demand on our emergency departments and ensure that those who truly need immediate care can access it quickly.
Preparing for discharge
Equally important is ensuring that when you or a loved one are ready to be discharged from our care, you are fully prepared to return home. This preparation is crucial not only for your recovery but also for the efficient operation of our hospitals. We encourage families to engage with our staff regarding discharge plans and any support needed at home. This might include arranging follow-up appointments, understanding medication routines, or accessing community services.
No excuse for abuse
Our dedicated staff are here to help you. They are working tirelessly under challenging conditions, and your respect and patience towards them makes a significant difference.
We all have a role to play in this situation. By using the right services, you help us maintain a system where everyone receives the care they need when they need it most. Your cooperation is essential in supporting fellow patients who require urgent attention.
Thank you for your understanding and support during this challenging time. Together, we can ensure that our healthcare system remains strong and responsive for all.
Best regards,
Melanie van Limborgh, Chief of Nursing and Midwifery
