Coronary Care Unit (CCU)

Both Wexham Park and Frimley Park operate a coronary care unit (CCU) for inpatients suffering from heart conditions.

Treatments and procedures offered:

• Thrombolysis
• Recovery of patient post myocardial infarction, unstable angina, heart failure, arrhythmias and any other heart complaints
• Post intervention treatments for patients who have had angiograms, angioplasties, pacemaker insertion and cardiac resynchronisation therapy and implantable defibrillators
• Primary angioplasty service with direct access for paramedics

Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory (CCL)

We provide cardiac interventions and device implantation at both Wexham Park and Frimley Park.

Cardiac disease risk management service

The cardiac disease risk management service is a multi-disciplinary team who provide support for patients and their families throughout their experience of heart disease, both in the hospital and the community.

If you have recently undergone cardiac surgery or had a cardiac event then participation in a cardiac disease risk management programme is recommended by your cardiac consultant as part of your recovery and management.

It is widely acknowledged and accepted that participation in such a programme reduces both cardiovascular mortality and episodes of acute hospitalisation whilst improving the quality of life of patients. It aims to promote the recovery and long standing secondary prevention of coronary heart disease. It encompasses monitoring exercise, education, psychosocial aspects, and a medical approach to secondary prevention.

You are eligible for this service if you have or had:
• A heart attack
• Coronary angioplasty with or without stenting
• A diagnosis of coronary artery disease that is medically managed
• Coronary artery bypass graft surgery
• Coronary valve surgery
• Heart failure
• Cardiac defibrillators or resynchronization device implanted
