Professional background
Nicholas Ward went to Leeds Medical School. He graduated from medical school in 1996 and having joined the Army spent two years in Germany. He has subsequently served as an orthopaedic surgeon in Northern Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and South Sudan. He joined Frimley Park Hospital in September 2010 as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in foot and ankle surgery. He retired from the Army in 2022 to continue with his NHS career and spend more time with his family.
He carried out his basic surgical training at Frimley Park Hospital, before entering higher specialist orthopaedic training in Wessex and Oxford. He is fellowship trained, having undertaken specialist foot and ankle fellowships in Oxford, at the NOC and in Portsmouth. He is trauma lead for the orthopaedic department at Frimley.
He covers all aspects of foot & ankle surgery in his NHS practice. He works closely with podiatrists and orthotists. He is a member of the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (BOFAS), the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) and the Combined Services Orthopaedic Society (CSOS).
Research interests
All aspects of elective foot and ankle surgery, trauma and sports injury work including operative and non-operative options.
