Professional background

Tim graduated in medicine with distinction from St. George's, University of London. He trained in respiratory and intensive care medicine in London. He was awarded a Wellcome Trust training fellowship and subsequently completed a PhD in molecular microbiology at Imperial College in 2003.

Since 2004, he has been a consultant chest physician at Frimley Park Hospital. During this time, he has developed a number of key services including a regional diagnostic service for lung cancer (EBUS), the medical acute dependency unit, and a large obstructive sleep apnoea service. He  served as the clinical director for medicine and care of the elderly and as the centre director for the Frimley Park adult cystic fibrosis service before becoming the Trust's medical director (now called the chief medical officer)  in 2013.

Tim was part of the executive team that guided the formation of the enlarged Trust in October 2014.

During his time as CMO, he has been the director of infection prevention and control, director of strategy and senior responsible officer for the electronic patient record (Epic). His external roles have included chair of the South East region clinical research network partnership. chair of the SE Region elective recovery group and independent inspection chair and advisor for the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Tim is the professional lead for the medical profession and is responsible for the Trust's quality and clinical governance framework. He is also the Trust's Responsible Officer and Caldicott Guardian.

He continues to see respiratory patients.

In 2018 he became a founding senior fellow of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (SFFMLM). For his services to the NHS during the Covid-19 pandemic he was awarded the MBE in the 2021 New Year’s Honours.
