FRCS (Tr & Orth) MEd BSc (Hons) Dip Hand Surg (Eur)
Alex graduated from Imperial College London in 2006, with junior surgical training at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington and also 2 years in Cornwall. He came back to London to complete a Master's degree at Imperial College in Surgical Education, his thesis on Orthopaedic training gained a merit award in 2010. During his junior doctor training Alex also spent time as a rugby team doctor, judo championship doctor, and as an expedition medic for Mount Kilimanjaro. He subsequently spent a year at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore before gaining a higher Orthopaedic Training number in the Kent Surrey & Sussex deanery.
Alex is dual fellowship trained in Hand & Wrist surgery. His first fellowship was at The Queen Elizabeth & The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospitals, Birmingham. This was a true ortho-plastics fellowship, including microsurgery and hand trauma. His second fellowship was at Guys & St Thomas’ London, a tertiary referral centre with more focus on complex hand & wrist orthopaedic conditions.
Alex has been a consultant at Frimley Park since 2021 and completed the European Diploma in Hand Surgery in 2022.

Tendon disorders (trigger finger & thumb, tenosynovitis, tendon reconstruction & transfer)
Thumb based arthritis management & steroid injections
Trapeziectomy with tendon interposition & thumb base joint replacement / salvage
Wrist arthroscopy (keyhole surgery)
Ulna sided wrist pain (TFCC / DRUJ / ECU / pisotriquetral joint arthritis)
Complex carpal & wrist trauma (peri-lunate injury / dislocation / fragment specific fixation / spanning plates / post traumatic arthritis)
Scaphoid fracture & management of non-union, salvage
Rheumatoid Hand
Removal of growths & cysts in the upper limb (including ganglions / lipomas / enchondromas, GCT)
Procedures are performed under local anaesthetic including WALANT techniques (wide awake local anaesthetic no tourniquet), regional or general anaesthetic. Treatments always tailored to individual patient circumstance, aiming to maximise functional outcome from non-operative & surgical interventions.
Research Interests:
Alex has presented his research work at regional, national & international conferences, winning numerous prizes. He has published his research in peer reviewed journals. He regularly attends National & International conferences to keep up to date with the latest techniques & developments within Hand and Wrist surgery. He is the current clinical audit & research lead for Trauma & Orthopaedics at Frimley Park, an educational supervisor and trains aspiring hand & wrist surgeons in the region.
