Our main surgical sites at Frimley and Wexham offer a comprehensive emergency general surgery service.
They both have a fully staffed emergency department, and emergency care is offered by the on-site emergency general surgical team.
The emergency surgery department/unit provides a high level of effective and efficient care for our emergency surgical patients. It practices evidence-based surgery and adheres to all current national Keogh and GIRFT guidelines for the management of emergency surgical patients and facilitate implementation of NHS Long Term Plan-Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) objective.
We provide a frontline consultant-led cover for emergency surgical admissions as well as covering the planned weekly CEPOD operating (Hot CEPOD) lists. We also run the daily emergency general surgery ambulatory clinics (EGSAC).
In addition to Emergency surgery, the current subspeciality interests amongst the emergency surgery unit consultants include Benign UGI/HPB (including oesophageal manometry & pH studies), coloproctology, endoscopy (including ERCP), complex hernia repair and complex abdominal wall reconstruction as well as laparoscopic surgery.
