Your multidisciplinary assessment will be with a pain doctor, physiotherapist and a psychologist who will work together on your care in the same appointment.
Our aim is to work together with you to make sure that your treatment plan considers every aspect of your health (physical, mental, and emotional), so that you receive the best possible care tailored to your needs. The team will then talk through their recommendations with you, looking at what the pain clinic can offer to reduce the impact of pain and help you to live well with chronic pain.
Why are we offering you a multidisciplinary assessment?
We know that living with chronic pain can affect both your physical and emotional wellbeing. Working together, the clinicians will ask questions to help them to understand how chronic pain impacts your daily life, and your physical and emotional wellbeing.
A see and treat clinic appointment will be with a specialist pain doctor.
This appointment will focus on understanding your pain concerns and you may be offered a pain management procedure (an injection) there and then. Some treatments cannot be performed on the same day, therefore, you will be added to the hospital day surgery waiting list. The role of the injection is to give you a window of opportunity to participate in rehabilitation and supportive self-management to improve day to day functioning.
The appointment will last approximately one hour and will be face-to-face, we ask that you attend with someone who will wait for you and that you do not drive to and from your appointment.
We offer Botox for migraine and 8% Capsaicin.
There is a leaflet we use in the LWWP pain about preparing for a hospital appointment - can we not reference that one? https://painconcern.org/product/managing-healthcare-appointments/ XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
What to expect from a Botox appointment?
A Botox appointment will be with a specialist pain doctor or nurse specialist.
The appointment will focus on your current headaches / migraines, previous treatments and medications and current medication you are taking. Prior to the appointment you will be asked to keep a headache diary for at least three months, and you will be required to fill in two other questionnaires about the impact your headaches have on your day-to-day life. You must bring these to your appointment.
Qutenza appointments are carried out with one of the pain nurse specialists. You will have received an information booklet to read prior to appointment and it is important that you read this and make a note of any questions you would like to ask.
You will need someone to drive you to and from your appointment as treatment may be carried out at this appointment, you can expect your appointment to last 1.5hours.
The appointment will last approximately 45 mins and will be either virtual or face-to-face. It will focus on understanding your pain concerns. Please bring a list of all current prescription medications, emergency medications and any medical letters from any other clinics outside Frimley Health.
