X-ray (plain film imaging)
For any patients between the age of 12 and 55 who are having any nuclear medicine scans, or certain x-rays, CT scans, interventional / fluoroscopic procedures, we are required by law to check with you whether there is any possibility of pregnancy. To prevent errors, and ensure we are gender inclusive in our approach, we will ask you about pregnancy, regardless of your apparent gender. There are signs in our waiting room, and statements indicating this in our appointment letters to raise awareness of this, and prevent patients being surprised or alarmed by our team members asking about pregnancy.
Cancelling or and changing your appointments
To minimise the number of wasted appointment slots each year, if you are unable to attend your appointment, or do not wish to proceed with your examination, it is important that you contact us as soon as possible, using the phone numbers on our radiology page.
What should I do when I DNA (did not attend)
If for any reason you are unable to attend your appointment or you would like to rebook your appointment or you did not attend then, please contact the radiology department immediately so that we can take the appropriate course of action and offer the cancelled appointment’s time slot to another patient.
Medicines
It may be necessary to let us know if you are taking any medication. This is usually specific to the procedure or scan you are having. Please refer to your appointment letter for advice on what we need to be informed about. If you did not receive an appointment letter, then please navigate to the relevant information for that procedure from our procedure specific information page. If you are still unsure whether we need to know something about your medication, please contact us.
If you need to contact the radiology department then our contact details can be found on the radiology page.
Valuables
We ask that you do not bring any unnecessary or valuable belongings into the hospital, we do not have specific secure storage for valuables (with the exception of MRI where a small locker will be available). If you are having imaging it is likely we will ask you to remove any jewellery from the area being imaged, so wherever possible, please remove any such jewellery before attending your appointment, and do not bring it with you.
Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust Hospital will not accept responsibility or liability for any patient’s property unless it has been handed in for safe keeping and signed for by a member of staff.
Contrast reactions:
Sometimes patients will have a delayed reaction to a contrast medium. In this instance, signs and symptoms can occur between one hour to one week after the contrast administration. If you believe you are having a delayed drug reaction, please contact NHS 111, your GP or your nearest accident and emergency department and tell them what medication and imaging you had.
Further information about contrast reactions can be found on our contrast medium - post contrast reaction page.
Aftercare
If you require aftercare information following a scan or procedure with us, please refer to your appointment letter. If you did not receive an appointment letter, please navigate to the relevant information for that procedure from our procedure specific information page

The time it takes for your results to be available varies depending on what type of imaging you have had. For information about the expected timeframes for results, please refer to the relevant information for that procedure from our procedure specific information page
