As part of our commitment to promote good health, all of the hospital's buildings, grounds and car parks are completely smoke free.
This also includes the use of electronic cigarettes / vaping devices.
Please help us to make this policy a success by refraining from smoking or vaping on our hospital sites.
We strongly advise all patients to stop smoking before their hospital stay and this is particularly important for patients needing surgery. Surgery will be safer and recovery time quicker for non-smokers.
We know that quitting smoking can be daunting in the early days so help is readily available. Please ask to see the hospital's stop smoking adviser for friendly, non-judgemental advice.
Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) is available for all patients to help with withdrawal symptoms. NRT is provided free of charge and will more than double your chance of long-term success with stopping smoking. If you feel this would be helpful for you during your in-patient stay, please ask your nurse or doctor.
Stopping smoking is the single most important step you can take to improve your health and many patients have used their time in hospital as an opportunity to try and give up the smoking habit. For health and safety reasons, we cannot permit the use of electronic cigarettes.
