The upper GI surgery unit provides a comprehensive specialist service for upper gastrointestinal keyhole and robotic surgery, as well as advanced endoscopy.

Our unit provides specialist treatment for all areas of benign diseases of the stomach, food pipe, liver, gallbladder and pancreas. We offer gallbladder surgery, anti-reflux surgery, hiatus hernia surgery, achalasia surgery and abdominal wall and groin hernia surgery.

Our GI physiology lab in Heatherwood Hospital provides specialist investigations for patients with benign oesophageal and reflux-related disorders.

Along with gastroenterology, oncology and Macmillan teams, we provide a comprehensive diagnostic service as well as chemotherapy for patients with upper GI cancers. We work closely with our linked cancer units in Oxford, Hammersmith and Royal Surrey hospitals, where major cancer surgeries are undertaken.

Our patients have access to weight loss services through Ashford and St Peter’s Bariatric Centre, where one of our UGI surgery consultants works as part of the bariatric team.
