Our dermatology team at King Edward VII Hospital in Windsor is celebrating a double awards success.
The team was recognised in the Dermatology Team of the Year and Dermatology Hero categories in the Quality in Care (QiC) Dermatology Awards at the Royal College of Physicians in London earlier this month. In its third year, QiC Dermatology recognises, rewards and shares good practice in dermatology for people with skin conditions and their families. A QiC award means an initiative has been recognised by the NHS, patients and industry as improving quality of life for people living with a skin condition.
Dermatology Team of the Year – Highly Commended for ‘Facing challenges - Making the most of what you have!’
The judges commented, "The Facing Challenges project was commendable, run by a very motivated clinical lead. The judges liked seeing the focus on staff mental health and it demonstrated a change in working practice. It was brilliant to see the recognition and commitment involved and that it encompassed wider teams, such as plastics and gynaecological teams. They have done very impressive work, making the most of what they have. The project is a good design for efficient and effective teamwork."
Dermatology Hero Award – Sally Eastmond, dermatology specialist nurse.
The judges said: “Sally has gone above and beyond her role to support a dwindling dermatology department to allow it to reach new heights... Sally was hugely involved in stabilising the service and enthusing her other nursing colleagues to take on wider roles. Her dedication to maintaining dermatology services for patients has been motivating for the whole department. Her patients are always complimentary and appreciate her care.”
Dr Alia Ahmed, consultant dermatologist, said: “It was a wonderful night for the whole team. The judges’ comments were exceptional and it was highly gratifying to be told that our team stood ‘head and shoulders above’ the other teams nominated. There were also a lot of appreciation for Sally’s dedication which was fantastic.”
